WELCOME TO OUR LITURGY: Living Bread. This is the greatest gift of all, a gift so vast that we can’t fully comprehend it, and our hearts and minds can never encompass it. No wonder Jesus’ contemporaries couldn’t understand. At times we can become disillusioned with the Church. Why do we stay? Because of the Eucharist! Jesus’ gift of his very self. How could we go away? St Paul tells us we who eat the same bread are part of the same loaf, united and called to be, with Jesus, one body.
First Reading:
Deuteronomy 8: 2 – 3, 14 – 16
2 Â Â Â And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not.
3 Â Â Â And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.
14 Â Â Â then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,
15 Â Â Â who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, who brought you water out of the flinty rock,
16 Â Â Â who fed you in the wilderness with manna which your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end.

WELCOME TO OUR LITURGY: This Sunday is a day of prayer for refugees and migrants. The readings are full of the love and compassion God has for all people, and St Paul talks of the need to help one another and to live in peace and unity. Let us pray today for all those who have had to leave their homes and countries and ask God to inspire us to help them.
First Reading:
Exodus 34: 4-6, 8-9.
4 Â Â Â So Moses cut two tables of stone like the first; and he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand two tables of stone.
5 Â Â Â And the LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.
6 Â Â Â The LORD passed before him, and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,
8 Â Â Â And Moses made haste to bow his head toward the earth, and worshiped.
9 Â Â Â And he said, “If now I have found favor in thy sight, O Lord, let the Lord, I pray thee, go in the midst of us, although it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thy inheritance.”
